Life in McMurdo

McMurdo is a very different place to be. It takes quite a large number of people to keep it operational: Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, cooks, painters, hair dressers, pilots, and lots of specialtiy support people like for the laborary. All this supports various scientific projects. Everybody used the same place the cafeteria and this is a great place to meet people, some of them are coming here since 20+ years. In addition McMurdo has a gym, a little souvenir shop, three bars, a chapel, and trails for outdoor recreation. Here we pack our gear (tents, sleeping bags, stoves, pots and pans), select and pack our food and test (stage) our equipment for the field work. The Crary lab is the center for the scientists, with laboratories and offices for basic biological and chemical analysis.
